If you’re British, then you probably own a NOW That’s What I Call Music compilation. This writer’s first one was NOW 42 on double cassette. The memories loom large.
As well as CDs and downloads in 2020, NOW exists as an app calls NOW Music that not only collects every NOW album and listing ever, but also has tons of artist and genre playlists based around the best in modern pop music.
The company has just announced that it is now offering a free tier of the service, offering “unlimited shuffle-play access” of the entire NOW catalogue and the weekly charts. NOW said that there will be adverts between songs, but didn’t say at what frequency.
Spotify offers a similar shuffle-only free tier that inserts ads every few songs.
Alex McCloy, Senior Digital Director at NOW Music said, “We’re a nation of music lovers and during COVID-19 music is more important than ever before. We have seen a huge uptake in app downloads and streams pushing the app to the No.1 position over the Easter bank holiday, and we hope our Free tier will give people more choice to access the music they love.”
If you’re really vibing what NOW has to offer, it’s worth noting that the paid service is only £4.99, a price that undercuts most other major music streaming services.
