Sony has launched a new set of wireless earbuds alongside noise cancelling headphones, showcasing two new audio products more affordable than the company’s excellent but expensive WF-1000XM3 (£219) and over-ear WH-1000XM3 (£330).

The company continues with this hieroglyphic approach to product naming with the £130 in-ear WF-XB700. They boast Sony’s Extra Bass tech and leave out the active noise cancellation, hence the cheaper price. It brings them in cheaper than Samsung’s Galaxy Buds+ and could prove a canny purchase given Sony’s audio chops. We’ll have to review them to find out.

They pack in IPX4 water resistance, so they’ll do for sweat and rain, and promise nine hours of battery life, with 18 total from the charging case. They come in blue or black and have a circular appearance on the outside when in the ear.

The noise-cancelling over-ear WH-CH710N are even more intriguing at the same £130. It’s hard to find a decent set of noise-cancelling cans for this price. They have different ambient sound modes and claim 35 hours off a single charge and come in blue, white or black.

Both headphones will likely compromise in areas like build and sound quality to achieve their prices, with both products leaving out LDAC. But if you’re looking for a relatively affordable set of wireless headphones, hopefully these should fit the bill, particularly when the over-ears are nearly a third of the price of Sony’s high-end over-ears.
